just because... (doesn't mean...) / even if...

Structure

普通形 + からといって

Explanation

Expresses that one cannot conclude or allow something merely because of the preceding reason. The main clause is usually negative, prohibitive or advisory: 〜わけではない, 〜とは限らない, 〜べきではない. A fixed combination of から + といって.

Examples

忙しいからといって、連絡もせずに約束を破るのはよくない。

Just because you're busy doesn't mean it's OK to break your promise without contacting me.

若いからといって、無理をしてはいけない。

Just because you're young doesn't mean you should overdo it.

Note

The main clause must deny or warn against something; it cannot be a plain affirmative statement.
