N + が契機で／になって；N + を契機に（して）／として
Explanation
Similar to 〜がきっかけで: a major event or change becomes the turning point for the main clause. More formal than きっかけ, often used for social events, historical turning points and corporate reform. 〜を契機に(して)/として follow nouns.
Examples
東日本大震災を契機に、防災意識が大きく高まった。
The Great East Japan Earthquake prompted a major rise in disaster-prevention awareness.
スマートフォンの普及が契機となって、情報の伝わり方が変わった。
The spread of smartphones changed the way information spreads.
Note
契機 is more formal and literary than きっかけ, common in newspapers and reports. The result is usually a social or historical change.
