Structure

N/数量詞 + に過ぎない;V-辞書形 + に過ぎない

Explanation

Indicates that the degree is low, merely..., with a tone of humility, understatement or dissatisfaction. Attached to nouns, numerals, or the dictionary form of verbs.

Examples

これは私の個人的な意見に過ぎません。

This is nothing more than my personal opinion.

彼は学生に過ぎないのに、立派な提案をした。

Though he's only a student, he made an excellent proposal.

Note

Often pairs with ほんの/ただ/たかが. Similar to だけだ but more formal.
