Structure

V-ない形（語幹）+ ないで

Verb nai-form minus ない + ないで means "without doing... and instead...", same as 〜ずに but more common in speech. E.g., 朝ご飯を食べないで学校へ行った.

宿題をしないで、学校へ行きました。

I went to school without doing my homework.

電気を消さないで、出かけてしまいました。

I went out without turning off the lights.

〜ないで is the colloquial counterpart of 〜ずに. 〜ないでください means "please don't...". Note the difference from 〜なくて (reason).
