Structure

V-て形 + くる

Explanation

Attached to the te-form of verbs, 〜てくる expresses: ① doing something and returning, or moving toward the speaker; ② change or development continuing from the past to the present (e.g., だんだん暑くなってきた).

Examples

ちょっと飲み物を買ってきます。

I'll go buy some drinks and come back.

最近、日本語が上手になってきました。

Recently my Japanese has been getting better.

Note

〜てくる can also express a round trip (e.g., 行ってきます). Contrasts with 〜ていく, emphasizing movement toward the speaker or change from the past to now.
