〜ところ（だ）

Structure
V-辞書形 + ところだ（直前）；V-ている + ところだ（進行中）；V-た + ところだ（完了）
Explanation
Combined with different verb forms, ところだ marks the phase of an action: ① dictionary form + ところだ: just about to do; ② ている + ところだ: in the middle of doing; ③ た + ところだ: just finished. E.g., 今、出かけるところです.
Examples
今、ご飯を食べるところです。
I'm just about to eat now.
ちょうど今、仕事が終わったところです。
I've just finished my work.
Note
〜たところだ is similar to 〜たばかりだ, but ところだ cannot take expressions of duration. In speech 〜ているところ is often shortened to 〜てるところ.
