Structure

V-て形 + まで(して)

Explanation

Doing something to an extreme degree for a purpose, suggesting the cost is excessive. Attached to the te-form of verbs.

Examples

休日を返上してまで、その仕事を急ぐ必要はない。

There's no need to give up your holidays to rush that work.

身を削ってまで、事業を続けるべきではない。

You shouldn't keep the business going at the cost of your health.

Note

Often with 必要はない/すべきではない, stressing that the extent is unnecessary.
