Structure
V-ます形（語幹）+ 得る／得ない
Explanation
Attached to the masu-stem of verbs, expressing possibility. 得る (read うる) means "it is possible to...", used in writing; 得ない (enai) means "cannot possibly...". Common combinations: あり得る, 考え得る, あり得ない.
Examples
そんなことは絶対にあり得ない。
That is absolutely impossible.
事故が起こる可能性も十分考え得る。
It is quite conceivable that an accident could occur.
Note
得る is read うる when expressing possibility (える means "to obtain"). 得ない (enai) is the common negative form.
