Structure

V-ている/辞書形 + ところを;V-た形 + ところを見ると

Explanation

ところを means "while doing X (one is interrupted or caught)", with the main clause being an intrusive or passive action (見つかる, 呼び止める, 邪魔する); ところを見ると means "judging from the fact that...", with a speculative main clause.

Examples

こっそり食べているところを、先生に見られてしまった。

I was caught by the teacher while secretly eating.

毎日練習しているところを見ると、彼女は本当に熱心だ。

Judging from the fact that she practices every day, she's really diligent.

Note

With ところを the main clause is often passive or intrusive; with ところを見ると it is a speculation (ようだ, に違いない).
