Explanation
Relative to the standard of the first clause, the result is disproportionate or unexpected. Attached to noun + の, plain verbs, i-adjectives, or na-adjective + な.
Examples
この店は高いわりには、味が普通だ。
This shop is expensive, considering the taste is average.
彼は年齢のわりに、若く見える。
He looks young for his age.
Note
Similar to にしては. The main clause is an evaluation relative to the first clause's standard, often unexpected or dissatisfied.
