Explanation
Two uses: ① purpose, "to..."; ② basis of evaluation, "for...". E.g., この本を読むには、漢字が必要です.
Examples
駅に行くには、この道をまっすぐ行ってください。
To get to the station, go straight down this road.
初心者には、この練習がぴったりです。
This practice is perfect for beginners.
Note
には marks purpose or a basis of evaluation; the purpose use is close to ために.
