ever since... (and never...) / since... (no...)
Structure
V-た形 + きり（〜ない）
Explanation
Indicates that since an action, the state has remained without further change, "ever since...". Often pairs with a negative (出かけたきり、帰ってこない).
Examples
彼は朝出かけたきり、帰ってきません。
He went out in the morning and hasn't come back since.
去年会ったきり、連絡を取っていません。
We met last year and haven't been in touch since.
Note
たきり often pairs with a negative meaning "never again". In speech っきり is also used.
