Structure
N + ほど + 否定；N + ほど + …はない
Explanation
〜ほど + negative expresses comparison, "not as... as..."; 〜ほど + …はない expresses the superlative, "nothing is more... than...". E.g., 日本ほど人が多い国はない.
Examples
今年の冬は去年ほど寒くないです。
This winter isn't as cold as last year.
家族ほど大切なものはありません。
Nothing is more important than family.
Note
〜ほど + negative marks the standard of comparison; 〜ほど + …はない marks the superlative. Unlike 〜より, ほど emphasizes how large the difference is.
