Structure
疑問詞/普通形 + かというと／かといえば
Explanation
Used to answer or elaborate on a question or topic raised earlier. Common patterns: 〜かというと、そうではない; なぜかというと…からだ. Follows question words or clauses. かといえば is basically the same as かというと.
Examples
日本語が上手ですか。上手かというと、まだまだです。
Am I good at Japanese? If you ask whether I'm good, I still have a long way to go.
なぜ毎日勉強するのかというと、夢を実現したいからです。
The reason I study every day is that I want to make my dream come true.
Note
With nouns and na-adjectives, use 〜かというと directly. In casual speech, 〜かっていうと is common.
