Structure
V-て形／た形 + からいいようなものの
Explanation
Expresses relief that something happened and a worse outcome was avoided. The second clause is often omitted or implied. Attached to the te-form/ta-form of verbs, e.g., 間に合ったからいいようなものの、あと少しで遅刻するところだった.
Examples
タクシーで行ったからいいようなものの、あと少しで遅刻するところだった。
It's a good thing I took a taxi; I was just about to be late.
警察がすぐ来てくれたからいいようなものの、一人ではどうにもならなかっただろう。
Thank goodness the police came quickly; on my own I couldn't have done anything.
Note
ものの here marks a concession; the second half is often omitted, implying a worse outcome was avoided.
