Structure
普通形/N + ならともかく
Explanation
Indicates that if it were the first case it would be acceptable (a different matter), but the second case is different; used to contrast two situations. Attached to nouns, verbs and adjectives (大人ならともかく、子どもには難しい).
Examples
一人ならともかく、家族で行くならもっと広い部屋がいい。
If it's just me, that's one thing, but for the whole family a bigger room would be better.
値段が安いならともかく、あの品質では買う気にならない。
If it were cheap, that would be one thing, but at that quality I wouldn't want to buy it.
Note
Compare with ならまだしも and はともかく. The main clause gives a different judgment or criticism from the first clause.
