Explanation
Noun + がする expresses sensing a sound, smell, taste or bodily feeling (音がする, 匂いがする, 寒気がする).
Examples
隣の部屋から変な音がします。
There's a strange sound coming from the next room.
台所からいい匂いがしています。
A nice smell is coming from the kitchen.
Note
がする covers five senses: sound, smell, taste, chills and nausea. Don't confuse it with 〜をする (to do). It describes involuntary perception.
