to give (to me) / to give (humbly, from a superior)

Structure

Explanation

くれる means someone gives something to the speaker (or in-group), with the giver marked by が. くださる is the respectful form used when a superior gives (e.g., 友達が本をくれた; 先生が本をくださった).

Examples

My friend gave me a souvenir from his trip.

The teacher gave me a dictionary.

Note

The giver of くれる is always someone else. It is the reverse of あげる (I give / someone gives me).
