もらう／いただく
to receive (from someone) / to receive (humbly from a superior)
Structure
N + を + もらう / いただく（動作主：に / から）
Explanation
もらう means receiving from someone, with the giver marked by に/から. いただく is the humble form, used when receiving from a superior (e.g., 友達にプレゼントをもらった; 先生に本をいただいた).
Examples
友達からお土産をもらいました。
I received a souvenir from my friend.
先生から推薦状をいただきました。
I received a letter of recommendation from the teacher.
Note
もらう takes the speaker's viewpoint. The giver is marked by に or から. Note いただく also means "to eat/drink" politely (いただきます).
