Structure
文（普通形） + のです / んです（名詞・な形容詞は「な」を付ける）
Explanation
Attached to plain sentences (adding な before nouns and な-adjectives), 〜のです/〜んです provides an explanation or emphasizes a reason. 〜んです is the casual form. E.g., 遅刻したのは、電車が止まったからなんです.
Examples
昨日は体調が悪かったんです。それで会社を休みました。
I wasn't feeling well yesterday, so I took the day off.
この本はとても面白いんですよ。読んでみてください。
This book is really interesting. Please give it a read.
Note
〜んです is the casual form of 〜のです. The question 〜んですか asks for a reason or explanation. Add な before nouns and な-adjectives: 学生なんです.
