〜てはいけない

Structure
V-て形 + はいけない（口語：〜ちゃいけない / 〜じゃいけない）
Explanation
Attached to the te-form of verbs, 〜てはいけない prohibits something, "must not do...". In speech 〜ちゃいけない / 〜じゃいけない is common. Contrasts with 〜なければならない.
Examples
ここでタバコを吸ってはいけません。
You must not smoke here.
試験の間、ほかの人と話してはいけません。
You must not talk to others during the exam.
Note
〜てはいけない is more colloquial and direct than 〜てはならない. In child-directed speech, 〜ちゃだめ is common.
